What do you all think about backpacking alone? Is it safe as long as I'm responsible, or should I try to find someone else who is interested in backpacking as well? I'm 17.. Thanks

Basically, if you are staying in hostels-you will meet people to travel with in no time. It's actually a fantastic way to meet great friends and if you get sick of them, you just part ways. Many times you end up travelling with different groups for different legs of your trip, a fantastic experience! Bit of a story.. when I was 19, I backpacked Australia. Met tons of people, one being a guy named Neil. He was great and we ended up being good friends, writing letters etc. and when email came about, emailing. Kept in touch but never saw each other, talked on the phone or anything. Then when my boyfriend and I backpacked Europe 7 years later, we stayed with Neil and his girlfriend for 10 days in London and had an absolute blast. Hoping they will come out to Canada soon or we will head back to London to visit. Sometimes you meet friends for life while travelling. Kim

Haha...I understand the worrying thing but I figured if I'm old enough to move out on my own and go to college then what does it matter if I'm travelling in a different country... ;)I'm glad to hear you had no problems while travelling alone...I was a bit worried about how safe it would be. Knowing that I'll probably meet people who are also backpacking makes it seem a bit safer...Well for me anyway..I don't know about my own mother... Britt
