True enough David...yet I rarely ever hear anyone speaking of Schwabia or Bayern 'alone' although they are regions of Germany. I tend to think overall most folks do tend to see Scotland, Wales, Ireland as 'seperate' places and know that I did in my plans. Concurrently, you rarely hear folks say they are going to the 'US'....normally you will hear they are going to California, Florida, New York City, et al. Some countries/states/regions just seem to have their own seperate identities and others are more closely grouped within the larger country...don't ya think? I lived in Bavaria, yet it would never occur to me to initially state that as the place, I just say Germany in a general way. Likewise, I live in the US but always say I live in Florida. Same as I would not say I am taking a vacation in the US...I would say which state/area and if going to the UK I would say Scotland, not the general UK. Am I rambling or does this make any sense?

i guess i'm just bein' difficult it just intrigues me that this is so common. even in the hostel listings on this site, these parts of UK were listed separately. it troubles me that some might actually not realise that they are all part of UK. it also seems inconsistent; you know, a flip-flop! - d

Personally I just call it the UK. One thing that really winds me up (and I've noticed that some people here are guilty of it) though is people who call the UK England. England is just one part- there's also Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Incidentally, Ireland used to be part of the UK not so long back (less than 100 years ago).
Even the EU are doing it now- they released this publication that had a map of the UK without Wales. How I'll never know....

Thank god I've never referred to all of UK as England...my bad is naming each country seperately and 'forgetting' they are all part of the larger whole! spelling that I for once caught myself!

Looks good. My only comment is that you should substitude Brugges for Brussels (or at least spend 2 of your days in each.
I would say reduce your number of days in Athens but a friends parents just got back and said they really cleaned it up for the Olympics so maybe it's worth while now. When I was there, it was dirty and nasty.
I would really try and scrape off a few days off places so you could spend some time in the Greek Islands though, they are stunning! Santorini, Naxos, Mykonos etc. Way nicer than Athens.

Now why would you say something like that? ;D (I had too)
I agree with Kim though, don't spend all the time in Brussels.

I was talking to someone and they said the same thing about brussels and if we really want to go there to make it a day trip....I guess most of our time in Belgium could be day trips from what i've been told...a day in three different places throughout Belgium.... what do you think? ?

Yep, that would work. I love Brugges the best so that is where I would base out of personally then day trip to Brussels and say, Ghent or somewhere else.

Yikes! 10 days for 5 cities in Italy? I'd suggest you cut it back to no more than 3 cities, whichever you choose...and forget Milan!

The Italy section is looking good now if you just do Pisa as a daytrip. That gives you 10 days for 3 cities and a day trip - 3 days each in Florence, Rome and Venice and 1 day for a day trip to Pisa.
It would be nice if you could tack on a few days to the Italy segment but it's doable like this - just rushed.
