Hey everyone Me and my friend Kaili just began planning our trip to Europe for the summer of 2006....we made a list of what countries we would like to see as well as the amount of time roughly we'd like to be in each country....not in cluding travel time.....I just thought I'd get some input on what we have so far....
England- 1 week Wales- 1 Day Ireland- 5 Days Scotland- 4 Days Netherlands- 4 Days Germany- 1 Week- (Kaili has family there...we want to go to Oktoberfest if we can) Denmark- 2 days Poland- 3 days Czech Republic- 1 week SLovakia- 3 days AUstria- 4 days Italy- 1 week Greece- 5 days Switzerland- 3 days France- 1 week Spain- 4 Days (really want to go to La Tomatina) Portugal- 2 days
Thanks in advance Jocelyne ;D

Hmm...that's quite a strange plan. 4 days in Scotland and 3 days in Slovakia (believe me, there isn't much there at all- in fact there's loads more in Wales even than in Slovakia) and yet only 4 days in Spain is a bit weird. Same with 2 days in Portugal.
Anyway, I doubt this route is feasible unless you have 2 months or so (even then it would be a squeeze when you consider travelling time). Also Oktoberfest is late summer, so you'd have to work that in .
Have you considered the fiscal aspects of your plan? A trip like this would cost a fair bit- it's a common fact that many people underbudget, especially when planning. Be realistic about your costs (e.g. in the UK you'll struggle to get by on less than £50 a day inc accommodation) and distances between places and then you should be fine.

Thanks for the reply Would I be better off shortening the time in Slovakia and adding it else where....we can extend days where we need to this was just are 2nd draft....we figure roughly about 100 days is how long we'll be gone for.....we know is going to cost quite a bit thats why were saving for almost 2 years by then we'll have roughly 15000 canadian which is about 10 000 Euros If this is a route its not likely that we'll get back to go to Oktoberfest it was just a thought.....how many days do you think we should add or remove from Slovakia...Spain...Portugal...or any other countries..... Thanks again, Jocelyne

Cut out Slovakia entirely (well, if you must visit Bratislava as a day trip- there isn't much there though). Then add more time for the Iberian penisular- Spain is a big country and to see both Spain and Portugal in 6 days would be pushing it to say the least.
Also I'd look at adding a couple of days in Poland (I assume you're looking at somewhere like Krakow, right?). You really need at least 4 days to see Krakow and the surrounding areas (1 day Auschwitz, 1 day Wieliczka and a couple of days in the city itself). Maybe cut out Denmark as well, also possibly Switzerland (it's extremely, extremely expensive).

My friend really wants to see Denmark and we both want to go to Switzerland....maybe we'll just go to Denmark for a day instead and shorten Switzerland....Slovakia isn't a necessary place to see for us....how many days do you think we need for Spain and how many for Portugal?

Denmark for a day? It hardly seems worth the effort to travel there. Do you have any particular item or place you want to see?
For Spain, it all depends on how many places you want to see. How long does that tomato festival last? What is the nearest city to that?

Well for Denmark my friend wants to go to Coppenhagen so I thought 2 days would be fine then in Spain we want to go to Bunol for La Tomatina festival which is only 2 hours on the last wednesday in August, but we also want to go to Madrid, Marbella, Segovia and Tossa de mar (there's more I just can't think of them at this very sec).....

It's up to you, but I really wouldn't bother with Marbella. It's full of expatriate English and is pretty expensive- also there isn't much in the way of budget accommodation. I'd go to somewhere like Seville instead- brilliant city with loads to do (it'll be warm there in the summer though).
Also Tossa de Mar?! That place is mini England. Instead base yourself in Barcelona (there are some decent beaches actually in the city)- Tossa is only a short bus/train ride away from there.

Hey Joc... just catching up on my reading! A bit more on our plan, We'll probably save Germany and Denmark for last. My Oma said something about having my family and her friends pass us around for a couple weeks.... see all there is to see in Germany (ha ha like we could see it all in a couple weeks ah ha). Denmark is a must, because One of my mother's best friends lives there and is going to show us the sites (I m really looking forward to seeing the Little Mermaid Statue). This will extend our little trip a bit, obviously we'll be requiring a couple visas, but it'll be worth it. Thanks everyone for the great ideas, keep them comming, any other suggestions are very welcome. I would like to get any suggestions on minimum $$ limits, daily, in countries. no fewer than 50 pounds in England.... right? (I think I'll aim for at least 100 pounds a day then to be comfortable - I have been there before and the prices are no joke 19 pounds for a football match -> can't wait to see another one ;D) I'd love to hear about the other countries - best to be prepared . Nothing yet is set in stone, we're just working our way through the preliminary planning and having a lot of fun (becomming more and more realistic on the way, especially with everyones input). Once again thanks for all the replies.

Other countries range from slightly cheaper to a hell of a lot cheaper. Generally the further South and East you go the cheaper things become- so by that logic Ireland is roughly the same (if not more for certain things) than the UK, whilst the Czech Republic is a fair bit cheaper (500ml of Budvar for only 35p is cheap ;D)

So...you're planning a 3-4 month trip, right? You've got just under 14 weeks here...minus travel time which will likely add another couple of weeks that you've not included. Hopefully this is just a 'list' and not an itenerary or you are looking at a fair bit of backtracking...which will add even more to the length of time.

England- 1 week Ireland- 5 Days Scotland- 5 Days i think it's funny when some people list england, n. ireland, scotland & wales seperately, yet then list other places just as countries. these are all parts of UK. all one country. but ireland, one of the places you list here, *is* a seperate country. didn't mean to imply otherwise. mea culpa
