Seeings as how off season is here again, this is the perfect time for me to make arrangements for contest prizes. What I want to know is what do you want to win? I can hit up anyone and everyone (lord knows I think they run when they see my emails so the more you can suggest, the better! Kim

Yep! Anything and everything you can think of..
We've given away everything from gift certificates to the Hard Rock Cafe in Amsterdam to a hot air balloon ride in Switzerland!

I really like any kind of gear cause you can use it even if you aren't planning on travelling for awhile.
Guidebooks? City maps? Travel journals? Travel magazine subscriptions?
I don't know...there's so much to choose from ;D

Oh wow! I'll have to think about this then. But I am leaning towards some things that are hard to find in smaller places; things like Woolite packages. Have you ever approached the big guns? Please like Eurorail and Britrail? EDITED to add: What about some of the great Eagle Creek packing gear? Or maybe some of the MEC travel stuff sacks or sleep sheets. They have great nick-nack stuff.

Hi! I think guide books and publishings would be good, they are so expensive and always have to be renewed!
Also, those little multi-use packs you gave out I think it was to eagle at the begginning of the month sound cool!

Yep, in the past we've given away a railpass, an Eagle Creek backpack..
Would you all be interested in things like: Restaurant gift certificates for places in Europe, Hostel gift certificates, Tours (if so, what type), Gift certificates to photo finishing/photo upload places, Attractions in Europe (if so, which) Outdoors activities in Europe (if so, what kind)

They all sound great Kim, but the problem with gift certificates is that so many come with expiration dates. They might have soured by the time anyone gets to them.
Tours sound awsome! Maybe walking tours like the Jack the Ripper tour in London or the Haunted Edinburgh tour. Maybe some of those "Big Bus" tours of the major cities in Europe.
What about Passes? We've mentioned Rail passes, but what about Heritage Passes, or the Scottish Explorder pass or the equivalent in another country.
**Forgive my UK centered suggestions..it's just what I've been researching. But I expect many could be applied to other areas.**

We've been lucky so far that not many of the gift certificates given away have had an expiry - one did, the hot air balloon one or the hand gliding in Switzerland, can't remember which one, but it was a 2 year expiry.
Gift certificates are great for me cause they don't cost an arm and a leg to mail! I was lucky when we did the backpack that the company that donated it mailed it directly to the winner.
Rail passes are hard, I don't know if I'd want to go down that road again, there were some weird technicalities!
I will do some looking into the walking tours and Big Bus ones, good ideas!

Kim, they are all really good ideas! I must say too that it would be too bad to win something and not be able to use it!
but I'd say it's worth winning something and giving it to a friend worse comes to worst!
I'd accept pretty much anything!

What about a digital camera?
Or gift certificates to online stores (MEC, REI, etc.) that sell travel gear? That way people who don't have access to a certain store in their city can still shop online and get great stuff.
I like the idea for a travel magazine subscription! Like "Conde Nast" or "National Geographic Traveler" or Arthur Frommer's "Budget Travel"... I love reading those!

All the above suggestions are great. Guidebooks. Travel videos. Language books.

Getting something out of Wal-Mart is worse than having all your teeth pulled at once. They are the CHEAPEST company I've ever seen! Sorry...I couldn't help myself.

I was a Walmart "snob" for a long time, but in the last couple months I've started going there again and again. Maybe their stuff is better than it used to be (I checked it out briefly a few years ago, which led to my years of boycotting.) I'm not sure if goods in Canadian stores are similar to what is in US stores or not.
