Hey all, I saw a few people here asking about these, and when I was looking for one for myself I found this one. www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-180-610&depa=0I work at a high school, so we have a few I was playing with here (*glee* testing stuff out before buying is always nice), and on average we fit nearly 1000 pictures on average on various camera models (hard to fill it up, but give a camera to a high school kid for a day and it'll be filled ;D). Also, dunno if we CAN post these price bits here, but if we can, let me know and I (and my students ) will hunt down the best price online. Doug

iPods are evil! Actually, I just don't like bringing expensive equipment with me anywhere because then I'll worry about losing it. Plus, I never have to charge anything then. ;D

How much does the 1G card cost? The gig card was $80 shipped on Newegg.com. I posted the link on another thread for it, should be only 1 or 2 down. I'd re-post it here, but I'm to lazy right now. Doug

Good idea with the iPod (but really, why would you WANT an iPod? : Anyway, for those with SD memory cards, I finally got my 1gig card in yesterday, and with my HP camera, I can hold 850 images at the highest quality, 1200 at medium, and 12,000 (yes, that's a comma)at lowest quality. Of course, lowest quality is REALLY crappy, so I'd probably use Medium, but still, now I don't need to worry about dumping images onto a CD or anything. If you've got the money to put down, and aren't bringing a mega-sized MP3 player (mine's incredibly small but only has 256 megs), the investment for a large card for your camera is worth it. Doug

X-Rays will not affect memory cards, as they are flash cards. STRONG magnetic fields can cause data loss, of a lower power field that is close (i.e. those wand things security uses to check you for metal objects), so don't carry any of the camera or cards in your pockets when your getting on the plane!

Probably best if ya'll didn't post the cartoon here. I'll provide a description though: One shows Muhammad in a turbin shaped like a bomb, while another has him saying something to the effect of that they are running out of virgins for all the suicide bombers. They are in an uproar over this because you aren't supposed to depict the Prophet Muhammad. So if your overseas right now, BE CAREFUL!

Well, since we did recommend couch surfing, i guess its safe to recommend Hospitalityclub.org. It's not quite a host family but i have been using it for years. I must say that GFE and I have agreed to normally not mention or recommend it, as it really isnt anything official, so you have to understand the risks. Hey! There was no recommending! Kim's already got that whip out on me to get the new sections of GFE done, I don't need it used for this now!!! And Commie, not trying to censor your post, I just haven't had great experiences with those open directories yet.

First, welcome to the boards. It's hard to leave here once you start posting. ;D As for the sleepng bag thing, I've found in researching hostels that most places prefer you NOT bring a sleeping bag, but instead bring a sleepsack (check the site here for how to make one, I'd link right now but I'm lazy). Basically it's a queen sized blanket sewn up on one side. Most hostels will provide one for a small fee, but if you're picky and want a 'clean' one, you might bring your own. As for Eagle, if you see a post from him, grab a snack and settle in for a long post (but all the information you ever wanted! ;D) Of course, since I'm still stuck in SoFla, someone correct me if I'm wrong! Edit: So I can't spell, it's been a rough day...

I thought Barcelona, Spain was great-also, I've heard wild things about Ibiza, Spain if you are into all night partying etc. I would avoid Switzerland for your first trip if you only have 2 weeks, it's beauiful but incredibly expensive. I'm more of a London girl myself, but my boyfriend loved Paris. Kim Ya know, this one threw me off. Kim mentions a boyfriend, and I was like "Didn't she just get married?!?" Then I looked at the date of her post, and smacked myself upside the head....
