Definately not the first ones, I would go for something more like the second ones.. you want a strap on the back or your arches will be killing you. Here's one I really think looks good from the REI outlet store: www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?productId=47607269&storeId=8001&catalogId=40000008001&langId=-1I'm really liking those for some reason..LOL.. like I need another pair of shoes! Your sneakers will be fine for walking shoes. Make sure to order your shoes in advance so you have time to break them in. Kim

Hey, those are cute too! My boyfriend will only wear Rockports to work (dress ones with a suit), he loves them. Says they are incredibly comfortable.
Unfortunatly, I can't wear open toed shoes to work or I'd get some like that. I have an amazing pair of Simple sandals that I wear every day I'm not working and love them too.

Kim Yeah to work I would totally not wear them either. But for everything else -- they are great! My feet tend to get REALLY hot and they sweat quite a bit so I absolutely live in sandals during the summer. I really can't have it any other way! As far as Rockports -- they're great! I even used to wear them when I was just a tiny little tike. My parents used to buy me Baby Rockports! Yeah -- I was spoiled! ;D

Yeah, I also think you made a good choice! Now start breaking them in, you don't want blisters once you get there! Kim

Would sandals like those work well for a typical city tourist day - like maybe walking 4 hours or so over the course of a day?

Oh definately... those are the best things to have. You want leather sandals as they stretch with your feet. Walking in running shoes makes your feet so hot in the summer.
You really want to break them in before you go, though.

I love sandals (all the ones y'all have shown here look very cute), and I hate tennis shoes, especially in the summer.
I am planning on taking my favorite sandals with me on my trip, but I don't know whether I should take a pair tennis shoes or not. I don't have any, although I could get some. My sandals are open-toed.
Any advice?

I wear running shoes all the time because I like them, so that's not much help - but I have run into a few places where I wouldn't really want to be wearing sandals and have my feet touching the ground, dirty water... etc. - keep that in mind.
Up to you really though, whatever you're comfortable with.

wow glad you all approve! i've been wearing them for the past couple of days (have them on at work right now!) and it feels like i've had these sandals forever...they're so comfortable and light. they will soon be one of my favorite pairs of shoes. i highly recommend these to any fellow women travellers who are looking to buy a pair of sandals.

Thanks for the advice Patrick. I think I will take a pair of tennis shoes, depending on whether I can find any good ones and break them in before I leave.
Another thing I just thought of - the sandals I'm taking aren't good for wearing in the shower cause they're made of leather and cork. I've read several posts that mention needing shoes for wearing in the shower. I really don't want to take more than 2 pairs of shoes, but is it important to have shoes that could be worn in showers or at the beach? (Don't really think I'm going to the beach, but one hostel we're staying at in Venice says there is a pool.)
